Senior Room Activities – January 2019:

Published on February 14th 2019 by LMNS

We are glad to see the end of winter as we finally begin to have some brighter mornings and evenings. Despite the darker weather, January has passed by quite quickly and we have been keeping busy in the Senior Room.

We had a visit from Garda Valerie. She told us about how the Gardaí look into cases and she also let us look at all of her uniform and other gear that she carries and wears. It was nice to have time to chat to her about her role in the community and her job. We had LOTS of questions!

We also had a visit form a lady from Barnardos. She came to talk to us about internet safety and how to look out for our friends and others on Social Media. She also advised us on how to be S.A.F.E. online and we discussed how easily people can get bullied on-line and how we can prevent this and help those who are being bullied.

We have been covering the topic of forces in Science. While looking at gravity we made parachutes and tested them to see how well they worked in slowing down the force of gravity. Some worked better than others.

In Maths we have been learning about Data and Graphs. We even got to carry out some surveys in class.

We made puppets from wooden spoons, we called them suppets. We wrote a drama script and preformed the dramas using our suppets. .

We have been learning the Tin Whistle. So far we can play Mary had a Little Lamb and are beginning to learn Twinkle Twinkle. It is a noisy experience and some of us can play more tunefully than others.

In History we have been looking at houses form different times in our local area. We walked around the town and noticed the similarities and differences between the range of houses in our area.

For P.E. we have being taking part in Taekwon-Do lessons. This is a new experience for a lot of us. We have learned that the five important things are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. These are good qualities to have both in sport and in life in general.

Liosmór Mochuda National School is a mixed two-teacher school in Lismore, Co. Waterford under the Patronage of the Church of Ireland. It is nestled at the top of North Mall between the historic St. Carthages Cathedral and the Deanery.
